Following the Cities 4.0 project core objective of creating synergies between urban ecosystems and the relevant stakeholders, on Monday April 8th an online exchange event  between three EU Mission Cities for climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030 and the Cities 4.0 Open Innovation Challenges Finalists took place.

The session was introduced by Rick Wielens, from ESTI, partner of the Cities 4.0 project, who presented the Open Innovation Challenges topics, their aim and the logic behind this approach to stimulate and foster innovation. Then, the Open Innovation Challenges Finalists presented their innovative projects on sustainable mobility and the built environment, and provided practical examples of their projects’ implementation in different European urban and suburban areas. More specifically:

  • Leo Salomaa, CEO and co-founder of Make a BIM, introduced the solution to scale up energy inefficient buildings in a faster and greener way, through the creation of AI Building Information Models (BIM) from architectural drawings;
  • Anaïs Enrico, International Development Manager for Karos Mobility, presented the company’s AI-powered carpooling system integrated with public transport for daily commuting in rural and suburban areas, empowering sustainable mobility;
  • Alexandru Vasiliu, Chief Marketing officer for e-Mobility Rentals, presented the first complete ecosystem for electric vehicle rentals with interchangeable batteries in Europe that has its own network of charging and battery swap stations.

The participating EU Mission Cities actively engaged not only to discover the groundbreaking solutions of the Finalists, but also to share knowledge, good practices and experiences among them, making important steps towards reaching climate neutrality by 2030.
